Burn After Reading

Okay, so this is one of the times when we caved and saw something R-rated! And it totally wasn't worth it. From the previews the movie looked really funny, but it was mostly just strange. However, if you are a fan of weird, interesting movies and/or dark comedy, then you will probably enjoy this film. I am not a fan of dark comedy. To me, it just feels eerie, morbid, and in a sense, sacrilegious, to laugh at and make light of certain things.

The plot line is too convulted, and I'm in too big a hurry, to even attempt to summarize it here. I will say, however, that I did love Brad Pitt's character. I wish he would have had a bigger role. And I do wish that all of my favorite characters wouldn't have had gruesome demises! Also, the film was effective in getting me thinking - I really couldn't stop thinking of the irony all day!

The Flyboys

The Flyboys is about two boys who accidentally end up hiding in a mobster's airplane. The mobster's brother has hijacked the plane, killed the pilot, and "abandoned ship". The two boys, who have fallen asleep in the back of the plane, wake up to find an empty plane heading straight toward a mountain.

It was pretty cute and entertaining, but it was a little predictable. Also, some of the acting wasn't so great. The two lead boys did a really good job, I thought, but some of the adults weren't as great. Although, it is PG-13, so it's a little violent and scary for a kids movie.

Ghost Town

Enoc, Oliver & I saw Ghost Town this afternoon. We LOVED it! It had just the right blend of comedy and tenderness. I highly recommend it!

Ricky Gervais (from Britain's The Office) stars as Bertram Pincus, a sarcastic, loner dentist living in Manhattan. He dies for a few minutes while undergoing a routine colonoscopy. Afterwards he is able to see dead people. True, the idea isn't new (Ghost, The Sixth Sense, etc.), but it was still highly entertaining. I especially loved the bits with Ricky Gervais and Tea Leoni - they were awkward, touching, and hilarious! Oh, and the soundtrack was great.

Anyway, if you haven't seen Ghost Town, get moving!
